Outdoor photography
Costa Rica is HOT! If you haven’t noticed already or are still waiting for your vacation to arrive. The days are short, but the sun is powerful, so we recommend setting up the photography sessions in either the early morning or late afternoon if it partakes outside. We know not everyone likes to wake up early, especially when you are on vacation, but we assure you, you will be delighted with the results. Season depending, we can capture the session with an outstanding sunset that we get through the summer.
Recommended morning times are from 7:00 am – 10:00 am. And afternoon times after 3:30 pm / 4:00 pm.
Seasons in Costa Rica
Many people want that beautiful session of you and your loved one(s) on the beach with the beautiful colors of the sunset. Why wouldn’t you? It’s gorgeous. But we must keep in mind the seasons in Costa Rica. From December to June, we are in our Summer, then from June to December, we are in our winter, with the heart of the winter in October (Central Pacific area, example: Jaco). So if you’re traveling within the winter months, please keep in mind that a sunset session may get rained out and almost a definitive in October.
All year round you are almost certain to have a beautiful morning, so if you have any doubt lets book your session for the morning, to capture the beautiful colors in the background.
Sunsets, are a favorite among most!
The sun sets a little later in Summer (unlike other countries, Costa Rica varies only about 30 minutes to 1 hour), so we recommend starting the sunset session at 4:30 pm. This will give us time to capture some photos with greater light and others with that stunning background you are looking for. We can start the session at 4:00 pm in the winter months, weather permitting; we will also recommend the correct hour depending on the season.
2 Hour sessions?
We recommend a standard 2-hour session for most of our photography. This is because sometimes we have one person, a couple, or ten kids, which makes capturing the photos we look for a little more complicated. Plus, people might want to change their outfits or even their location. So no, it usually doesn’t take 2 hours to complete our session, and on average, we are closer to 1 hour. This doesn’t mean that the price will be any less just because we used only half of the time. Remember, each service provides a certain amount of photos, and once the photographer or clients are happy with the outcome no need to continue sweating in the heat and smiling, go back and relax!

Prepping the property
With our professional experience, we’d like to offer our recommendations for getting your property ready for the photoshoot. We insist that you’ve had the place well cleaned beforehand, remove any photographs, kids drawings, toys, etc., that you might not want to appear in the photos. And hide extra kitchenware off the counters, such as drying racks, soap, sponges, even toasters, blenders, etc., anything that might look crowded or might not help the photograph. If the views from the windows are nice with colorful backgrounds adding to the picture, we recommend that the windows are clean as you will notice any marks on them. When we enter the bathrooms, we always like to remove the garbage cans to keep them out of the photos; it is even better if you can hide them beforehand. Finally, if you have any special requests, please let us know beforehand as we want to ensure we provide photographs as you want them. (an example might be window curtains closed in bedrooms, all the fans on with lights, etc.)
Timing and lighting
Every property is different; we have different views, neighbors, natural lighting, and artificial/additional lighting to enhance the pictures. We always recommend taking photos in the early morning, especially when you have beautiful views from your windows. Gaining the deep blues and lush greens adds a beautiful contrast to your images, helping to improve the quality of the picture. Unless you are interested in an evening/night photography session to capture the property’s true beauty once lit up. We NEVER recommend taking the photos in the middle of the day, as the heat doesn’t help our concentration, the light is too strong, and any white walls or windows can become overexposed. Let’s leave the photography sessions to the early morning or late afternoon.
What to expect at the end
We focus on wide angles with several lenses in our equipment bags. Showing how the area looks, we add minimum editing to keep the colors true to what they are. Nothing worse than oversaturated greens and blues, making the picture look nothing but fake. We will walk through the property from one end to another, capturing every room, bathroom, living area, bedroom, kitchen, outside, etc.
Suppose you are looking for something specific; we recommend showing us your ideas of what you are trying to capture so we can try to provide exactly that. Remember photography is an art, and some art you like and others you don’t. We have our style, which best showcases the property for what it looks like. Nothing like the promotional photo of Mc’Donalds BigMac, and what you receive in the box is nothing similar.
